AlainCrepin

A multifaceted musician, Alain Crepin studied the saxophone, cello, and piano in Dinant, before attending the Royal Brussels Conservatory, where he was taught by François Daneels and obtained Diplômes Supérieurs in Saxophone and Chamber Music and won First Prizes in Harmony and Counterpoint. He also studied fugue, orchestration, and orchestral conducting.

Vanatenhoven

A Graduate of the Royal Brussels Conservatory (where he was taught by François Daneels), Freddy Vanattenhoven won First Prize in Clarinet and obtained Diplômes Supérieurs in Chamber Music and Saxophone and Certifi cats in Transposition and in conducting brass and wind ensembles.

Marie-Bernadette Charrier is currently Professor of Saxophone at the PESMD (Pôle d’Enseignement Supérieur de Musique et de Danse) Bordeaux- Aquitaine and at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, where, in 1993, she set up a performance class for contemporary music, for all instruments. She has trained generations of performers to perform contemporary music with an open mind.

Barry Cockcroft studied the saxophone in Australia (under Peter Cinch), before going on to further studies in Bordeaux with Jacques Net, Marie- Bernadette Charrier, and Jean- Marie Londeix. Raaf Hekkema is an adventurously minded who has won many prizes. He gives about a hundred concerts a year all over the world, performing his own arrangements as well as the classical and contemporary saxophone repertoire. In 2007, during a live broadcast on ZDF, he received the Echo Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year award from the German music magazine Echo for his album Paganini Caprices for Saxophone.

Masataka Hirano studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1995, he joined the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris, where he was unanimously awarded First Prizes in Saxophone, Chamber Music, and Improvisation. Masataka Hirano has participated in and won many different competitions, including the 7th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition and the 1st Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition in Bangkok in 2008.

Margarita Shaposhnikova was the fi rst to introduce the saxophone to the world of classical music in Russia, where she started the fi rst saxophone class in 1965. Today, she is considered to be the greatest teaching authority in all of Russia. She started her own school, where she taught the greatest Russian saxophonists of today. She currently teaches at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow.

Kenethtse

Kenneth Tse is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Indiana University, and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He fi rst attracted attention in 1996 when he won a prestigious prize awarded by the New York Artists International Association. This enabled him to give a recital at Carnegie Hall, with the New York Times acclaiming him as a “young virtuoso”.

Javier Valerio studied at Indiana University (under Eugene Rousseau). He also studied with Yushi Ishiwata, Jean Lansing, and Iwan Roth. In 2001, he obtained a Master’s in Jazz Studies at Florida International University (where he was taught by Gary Campbell), where he collaborated with the Classical Saxophone Studio and the New World School of the Arts in Miami and was a member of the Florida Saxophone Quartet.

henderickx

Wim Henderickx studied composition and percussion at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp. He went on to further studies at Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music. He deepened his training by taking the sonology course at Ircam in Paris and by attending the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has been composer in residence at Muziektheater Transparant (in Antwerp) since 1996 and at the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra since 2013.
