AlainCrepin

A multifaceted musician, Alain Crepin studied the saxophone, cello, and piano in Dinant, before attending the Royal Brussels Conservatory, where he was taught by François Daneels and obtained Diplômes Supérieurs in Saxophone and Chamber Music and won First Prizes in Harmony and Counterpoint. He also studied fugue, orchestration, and orchestral conducting.

Vanatenhoven

A Graduate of the Royal Brussels Conservatory (where he was taught by François Daneels), Freddy Vanattenhoven won First Prize in Clarinet and obtained Diplômes Supérieurs in Chamber Music and Saxophone and Certifi cats in Transposition and in conducting brass and wind ensembles.

Marie-Bernadette Charrier is currently Professor of Saxophone at the PESMD (Pôle d’Enseignement Supérieur de Musique et de Danse) Bordeaux- Aquitaine and at the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, where, in 1993, she set up a performance class for contemporary music, for all instruments. She has trained generations of performers to perform contemporary music with an open mind.

Barry Cockcroft studied the saxophone in Australia (under Peter Cinch), before going on to further studies in Bordeaux with Jacques Net, Marie- Bernadette Charrier, and Jean- Marie Londeix. He completed his training at the Banff Centre for the Arts (Canada), where he was funded by the Australian Council for the Arts.

Antonio Felipe-Belijar is a graduate of the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música in Madrid. He has impressed in the most eminent competitions, winning Second Prize at the 4th Concurso Internacional de Saxofón Villa de San Juan (1997), First Prize at the Concurso de Saxofón Villa de Benidorm (1999), the PACEM IN TERRIS International Music Competition in Bayreuth (2001), Third Prize and Second Prize at the Adolphe Sax International Competition in Dinant (2002 and 2006).

Raaf Hekkema is an adventurously minded who has won many prizes. He gives about a hundred concerts a year all over the world, performing his own arrangements as well as the classical and contemporary saxophone repertoire. In 2007, during a live broadcast on ZDF, he received the Echo Klassik Instrumentalist of the Year award from the German music magazine Echo for his album Paganini Caprices for Saxophone.

Masataka Hirano studied at the Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1995, he joined the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris, where he was unanimously awarded First Prizes in Saxophone, Chamber Music, and Improvisation. Masataka Hirano has participated in and won many different competitions, including the 7th Japan Wind and Percussion Competition and the 1st Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone Competition in Bangkok in 2008.

Lars Mlekusch graduated from the Hochschule für Musik in Basle (where he was taught by Marcus Weiss) and the Northwestern University in Evanston (where he was taught by Frederick L. Hemke). Lars Mlekusch is one of today’s most sought-after saxophonists and contemporary music teachers.

Margarita Shaposhnikova was the fi rst to introduce the saxophone to the world of classical music in Russia, where she started the fi rst saxophone class in 1965. Today, she is considered to be the greatest teaching authority in all of Russia. She started her own school, where she taught the greatest Russian saxophonists of today. She currently teaches at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music in Moscow.

Kenethtse

Kenneth Tse is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Indiana University, and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He fi rst attracted attention in 1996 when he won a prestigious prize awarded by the New York Artists International Association. This enabled him to give a recital at Carnegie Hall, with the New York Times acclaiming him as a “young virtuoso”.

Javier Valerio studied at Indiana University (under Eugene Rousseau). He also studied with Yushi Ishiwata, Jean Lansing, and Iwan Roth. In 2001, he obtained a Master’s in Jazz Studies at Florida International University (where he was taught by Gary Campbell), where he collaborated with the Classical Saxophone Studio and the New World School of the Arts in Miami and was a member of the Florida Saxophone Quartet.

Wim Henderickx studied composition and percussion at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp. He went on to further studies at Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music. He deepened his training by taking the sonology course at Ircam in Paris and by attending the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has been composer in residence at Muziektheater Transparant (in Antwerp) since 1996 and at the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra since 2013.

For many years, the composer Claude Ledoux has believed in a multidisciplinary approach to music and has tried to incorporate the nature of our splintered world into his music. His work places itself at the crossroads of contemporary music styles (he studied under Pousseur, Rzewski, Ligeti, and Xenakis), popular music, non-European music (which has attracted him since adolescence), and new technology (echoes of research carried out at the Liège studios and at Ircam in Paris).

The clarinettist Eddy Vanoosthuyse performs as a soloist with numerous orchestras, including the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Simón Bolívar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela, the Brussels Philharmonic, the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra, the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Sofi a Soloists Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Columbus Symphony, and the Flanders Symphony Orchestra.

After discovering the saxophone thanks to François Daneels at the Académie de Musique in Tubize, Michel Mergny attended the Royal Brussels Conservatory, where he obtained Diplômes Supérieurs in Saxophone and Chamber Music. At the same time, he also obtained First Prize in Clarinet at the Royal Mons Conservatory.

Jean-Marc Lissens received a thorough musical education at the Royal Liège Conservatory, under Albert Tyssens, whom he fi rst met at the age of eight and who guided him throughout his studies. He studied further under François Daneels and Jean-Marie Londeix.

Momenteel is zij Docente Saxofoon aan de LUCA School of Arts van Leuven. After winning First Prize in Music Theory at the Royal Brussels Conservatory, Nadine Bal went on to further studies at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven (where she won First Prize in Saxophone and Chamber Music and was awarded a Higher Diploma in Saxophone in Norbert Nozy’s class and First Prize in the History of Music in Yves Knockaert’s class).

Simon Diricq studied the saxophone at the Conservatoire Royal in Mons, the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Versailles, and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz in Cologne. He completed his studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris.

Leblanc

Philippe Leblanc is a graduate of the Royal Brussels Conservatory, where he won First Prize in Clarinet (1978) and Saxophone (class given by François Daneels, 1980), and was awarded the Diplôme Supérieur in Chamber Music (1986), and of the Royal Liège Conservatory, where he won First Prize in Chamber Music (1982) and was awarded the Diplôme Supérieur in Clarinet (class given by Rigobert Mareels, 1985).

mazzucco

A graduate of the Royal Brussels Conservatory, Joseph Mazzucco obtained Diplômes Supérieurs in Saxophone and Chamber Music in the class given by François Daneels and a Diplôme in Saxophone Methodology. He currently teaches at the Académies de Musique in Tubize, Enghien, and Anderlecht.
