Wim Henderickx studied composition and percussion at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp. He went on to further studies at Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music. He deepened his training by taking the sonology course at Ircam in Paris and by attending the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. He has been composer in residence at Muziektheater Transparant (in Antwerp) since 1996 and at the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra since 2013.

Wim Henderickx has received numerous awards, both in Belgium and abroad, including the Prix de Musique Contemporaine Québec-Flandre and the Eugène Baie Prize (1999). He also won the Arts section of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium in 2002. Wim Henderickx’s compositions are characterised by a solid structure, colourful, changing sounds, and intense expressiveness. His compositional process is motivated by programmatic elements and is greatly infl uenced by oriental music and philosophy (Tantric Cycle). He has composed for various orchestras and organisations: Raga for deFilharmonie (Royal Flemish Philharmonic), Canzone for voice and piano for the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium, and Symphony No. 1 for the National Orchestra of Belgium. He has composed two major operas: Triumph of the Spirit over the Matter (La Monnaie/De Munt, 2000) and Achilleus (Vlaamse Opera, 2003). At the request of Muziektheater Transparant, the HERMESensemble, and Veenfabriek, Wim Henderickx created a musical theatre piece entitled Medea. He also collaborated with the HERMESensemble to record the album Disappearing in Light. In 2011, deFilharmonie, conducted by Martyn Brabbins, recorded his Tejas, Variations, Skriet, and Le Visioni di Paura. Wim Henderickx teaches composition at the Royal Conservatory in Antwerp and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He also teaches at the Musica summer composition school for young people.
