For many years, the composer Claude Ledoux has believed in a multidisciplinary approach to music and has tried to incorporate the nature of our splintered world into his music. His work places itself at the crossroads of contemporary music styles (he studied under Pousseur, Rzewski, Ligeti, and Xenakis), popular music, non-European music (which has attracted him since adolescence), and new technology (echoes of research carried out at the Liège studios and at Ircam in Paris). Fascinated by music of every kind, Claude Ledoux travelled in the East (Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Northern India) in order to carry out extensive musical research with which to fuel his work. Some of his pieces echo this experience directly: Crossing Edges for erhu and orchestra (Liège Royal Philharmonic), Echoes for the Shanghai Sinfonietta, and a commission from the Muromachi Ensemble, which will be premiered in Tokyo in December 2014. As a composer, he has made an impression in several international competitions. He has also been resident composer at Musiques Nouvelles, Castello d’Umbertide (Italy), BOZAR in Brussels, and the Sapporo Concert Hall (Kitara). A pianist and the author of numerous articles on musical composition, Claude Ledoux is Professor of Analysis at the Conservatoire National de Musique et de Danse in Paris and Professor of Composition at the Royal Conservatory in Mons. He has also taught these subjects at the State University of Campinas and the University of São Paulo as well as at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Since 2005, Claude Ledoux has been a member of the Royal Academy of Belgium.
