Kenethtse

Kenneth Tse is a graduate of the University of Illinois, Indiana University, and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. He fi rst attracted attention in 1996 when he won a prestigious prize awarded by the New York Artists International Association. This enabled him to give a recital at Carnegie Hall, with the New York Times acclaiming him as a “young virtuoso”.

He had the opportunity to give a second performance at this prestigious venue after winning the ALEX Award (Performing Arts category) awarded by the National Alliance for Excellence. Since then, he has travelled all over the world, giving concerts as a soloist and accompanied by renowned orchestras, including the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, the United States Navy Band, the Slovenian Armed Forces Military Band, La Armónica de Buñol, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Kenneth Tse is regularly invited to lecture and to give master classes all over the world. In recognition of his work to modernise the repertoire of the saxophone, around thirty US and international composers have dedicated pieces to him, including David DeBoor Canfi eld, John Cheetham, Andrea Clearfi eld, David Froom, Perry Goldstein, Greg Fritze, Walter Hartley, Luis Serrano Alarcón, Guy Lacour, Barry Cockcroft, and Piet Swerts. He has premiered and recorded a large number of these pieces. He also regularly creates arrangements for saxophone, which are published by Reed Music. Some of his written works have been published in specialised journals such as Saxophone Journal, Saxophone Symposium, and the Yamaha Education Series. Kenneth Tse founded the Hong Kong International Saxophone Symposium, which links Asia and Oceania. He is currently Professor of Saxophone at the University of Iowa, President-Elect of the North American Saxophone Alliance, and Vice-President of the International Saxophone Committee.
