A multifaceted musician, Alain Crepin studied the saxophone, cello, and piano in Dinant, before attending the Royal Brussels Conservatory, where he was taught by François Daneels and obtained Diplômes Supérieurs in Saxophone and Chamber Music and won First Prizes in Harmony and Counterpoint. He also studied fugue, orchestration, and orchestral conducting.

He is Professor of Saxophone and Director of the International Saxophone Ensemble at the Royal Brussels Conservatory, and Professor of Orchestration and Orchestral Conducting at the Conservatory of Esch-sur- Alzette. As a military bandmaster, he directed the Royal Band of the Belgian Air Force for 21 years. He was promoted to the rank of Major-Bandmaster in 2004 and made Artistic Director of all the bands of the Belgian defence forces. As a soloist and as a conductor, he has recorded 60 albums and performed all over the world. He has accompanied the world’s greatest soloists during the European Saxophone Days in Dinant, at the World Saxophone Congresses in Minneapolis and Ljubljana, and at the 1st European Congress in Ciudad Real. He was a founder member of the Dinant-based International Adolphe Sax Association in 1994 and is still a member. He was secretary of the jury for the Adolphe Sax International Competition before becoming its president in 2005. He is also a composer and most of his works have been recorded and performed by the world’s greatest soloists and orchestras. He has served as a member of numerous juries, including Paris, Nice, Munich, Valencia, Taiwan, Madrid, Israel, Moscow, and Trento, and has given many master classes in Vienna, Jerusalem, Gap, Alicante, Caracas, Nairobi, Addis Ababa, and Bogotá, and elsewhere.
